THE BIBLE

I was looking through my home library and spotted one of my books entitled:  “The Bible For Dummies”.  I guess the authors had me in mind when they wrote it.  Actually it was an assigned book for one of my seminary classes.  I found it to be very helpful as it gave a lot of explanation and meaning regarding Holy scriptures.

The bible has the distinction of being one of the best known, least understood book in the world.  Its message and meaning are matters of ongoing, and often heated debate.  The bible has been used to justify wars, establish programs for those in need, to support slavery and to condemn it, to fuel hatred and to promote love and understanding.  So what is the bible really about?

People come to the bible for a variety of reasons.  People use it to find inspiration and meaning to life, to help with emotional issues, for guidance, wisdom and healing.  Foremost it is a book written by God that tells us all about him and all about our human nature.  It is a book that provides us with the answer of how we can be reconciled to God and be granted everlasting life in heaven.  The bible is a living word.  It comes true in all peoples’ lives whether they believe it or not.  No other book can make that claim.

Friends look at reading the bible as if you were going on an adventure.  An adventure that will take you back in time, take you to distant lands, where you will encounter fascinating people and have experiences that are life changing.    Please be aware that there will be passages that you don’t understand and if interpreted wrongly, could lead you away from God’s intended truth.  I am available to answer any questions you may have.  Many people ask me questions all the time.  This past week while on vacation, some of my friends had some good questions that led to meaningful discussions and their understanding.  If you are able, I encourage you to come to bible study on Tuesdays at 10:30.  We learn a lot and have great fellowship and fun while doing it.

Psalm 119:105.  Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

2 Timothy 3:16.  All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.
